Insanity is high-intensity interval training for total body workout.
We all have some basic idea what high-intensity interval training should represent and we usually call it HIIT without thinking. When we say HIIT we know that we will sweat. And that is basically all that we know.
But let me explain the main difference and how is Insanity compared to old HIIT programs.
HIIT program is based on intervals where a person exercises at a very intense pace for some time and then makes periods of rest in between.
What is new by Insanity?
So, you do not need gym or weights. All you need is a pair of shoes, towel and DVD to follow the training.
It is designed to increase aerobic fitness level while burning fat and you will burn 1000 calories in one hour.
Sounds insane? Yeah!
Your training is based on a 3-minute workout and rests for only 30 seconds and that is the main difference. In old HIIT programs, pauses were longer.
This program makes you feel that you do not make any pause. It will bring your body to the endurance limit and then you have a feeling that the minutes last forever and those 30 seconds of pause seem to be shorter.
How is the Insanity program structured?
Insanity is two months program and it contains 10 workouts. You will train 6 days per week and the seventh day is for the rest.
In the first month there are 5 workouts:
- Fit test at the beginning to see how good you are so far and to easily follow your progress in the next two months. You’ll have these fit tests every two weeks.
- Plyometric cardio circuit will bring you beyond your limits and bring you to madness
- Cardio power and resistance will make you feel seconds last forever and train your body and your psyche
- Cardio recovery will make you expect some recovery but…
- Pure cardio will burn your body fat like crazy
But do not fool yourself.
There is no actual pause. In this week you will do daily core cardio and some balance routine. The bright side is that it will look like a pause comparing to the second month.
The second month is even crazier.
When you think if it can go harder, the answer will come and it sounds like this: „Yes because this is INSANITY!“
As I said, after recovery week you have other four weeks of sculpting your body:
- Max interval circuit
- Max interval plyo
- Max cardio conditioning
- Max recovery
How does it work?
If you want to see results you have to stick to the plan. You can not hit the pause button whenever you want during the training… or you can, but it not will be effective.
If you want to see results you also have to stick to the diet. If you do not eat as it is planned you will just have a lack of energy and you’ll feel exhausted all the time.
And nobody needs it.
The diet plan is quite simple.
It is based on 40% protein, 40% carbs, and 20% fat. Proteins will feed your muscles, carbs and fat will give you the energy you need.
If you can’t eat as it is planned, you are free to make your own plan that fits better to you but you have to think of the percentage of proteins, carbs, and fat in your meal.
Insanity is a program for fat losing, so you can not expect to gain some muscles because it is more muscle definition than muscle mass designed.
But you will eventually, in the end, notice that your muscles are some bigger and way much defined.
Your fat is gone, your muscles are leaner and more defined. You have the whole new body after two months.
The most positive thing about insanity is that you do not have to wait whole two months to see the difference or to see the changes on your own body. You will see it at the end of your first week.
I said to you. It is INSANE!
Who is this program for?
If you are a total beginner maybe better not to.
It is not designed for total beginners and for those who are not in training already. It is high-intensity training and it will bring you beyond your limits. It will pump your blood and sometimes make your heart burden.
Also if you have some health issues you should first consult your doctor and be sure that is a good choice.
This program was difficult for some period even for those who were long into training. If you were in gaining muscles and work with weights it is logic to feel sometimes hardness when you change your training to this type.
During this two months you will compete against yourself and in that case, you should be mentally strong. There will be moments when you want to hit the pause button, or just quit everything.
Sometimes it will be difficult to maintain the motivation during 60 days and to stay focused and don’t get bored, especially during those periods when you start to notice that some exercises are repeating and you’re maybe the person who does not like that kind of exercise.
In those moments you should think why you have started at the first place and try to project your aim body at the end of the road.
Pros and cons
Insanity workout target: core, arms, legs, glutes and back; generally it targets whole your body.
It always targets two or more muscle groups so you define your ideal body faster and your body fat is disappearing.
In short period you will notice that your stomach is flat, tights are leaner and the whole body comes to great shape.
If this program has a con it only depends on your discipline. If you are not following all the rules you can not expect excellent results.
