Insanity workout is high-intensity training which is created to reduce body fat and build lean muscles on your body during 60 days program. It is the fact that without following the diet plan during the exercise period results won’t be as good as expected.
Diet is the key!
Why are the pre- and post workout meal so important?
Without any doubt, the saying: „You are what you eat.“, is something that should put on your wall and repeat every day.
Once you start your fitness program, especially if it is Insanity workout you should think on your diet plan if you want the best possible results. Without it, you’ll also have some results but they won’t be nearly as good as when you follow the plan.
So, when you’re already trying, why don’t give 100%?
This plan is based on 40% carbs, 40% proteins, and 20% good fat intake.
In this plan, the two most important meals are pre- and post workout meals.
Those two meals feed your body directly in the period of exercising. Why do I repeat it? Because those are two periods when the body needs the best possible fuel to give you best possible results.
What to eat before a workout?
In this way, you give enough time to your digestive system to absorb food and process the nutrients into the fuel needed for your body.
This meal is known as an „energy meal“. It supposes to give energy to your body during the workout. In this way, your body will spend this energy instead of reserves in the body what could eventually lead to losing muscle volume.
The pre-workout meal should consist of carbs and proteins. Proposals are many. One of my favorite at this moment is to take 0,25g of proteins and 0,25g of carbs per pound of your targeted body weight. You can add some healthy fat according to your daily calorie intake.
What to eat after a workout?
Why is this meal together with pre-workout meal important. Unlike pre-workout meal, this meal gives you both- the energy and recovery. Basically, this meal (re)build your muscles.
In minutes and hours after the workout, your body is still working. Your muscles are still using fuel and you have to give them some quality fuel in order to build new fibers and don’t go into negative balance.
In this period is good to take something fast absorbing. Maybe, the best solution is the liquid meal. One of the suggestions is protein shake together with some carbs.
As above mentioned, if you’re not strictly following the Elite Nutrition Plan, one of many other solutions is this proposal: 0,25g of proteins and 0,25-0,5g of carbs per pound of your targeted body weight.
Together with the protein powder, you can mix dextrose or some fruit. Your shake you can make with water, milk or 50-50 combinations. What should you know? Shake, made with water, will absorb faster.
If you decide for solid food meal my recommendation is to follow the percentage of nutrients.
What to drink?
Whether before or after there is only one good answer to the question: „What to drink?“
The answer will always be water. It will hydrate your body without any extra calories. There is no much philosophy about this. Water, water, water. Minimum 1,5 to 2 l per day.
